The 2025 edition of the Jagannath Rath Yatra marked the third consecutive year that Photosynthesis Photography Services served as the official photography and videography team for International Sri Krishna Mandir Singapore.

Our journey with the festival began in 2023 at Toa Payoh Stadium, continued in 2024 at Yishun ActiveSG Stadium, and returned in 2025 at Woodlands Stadium. Over these three years, our team has documented the procession, cultural performances, community participation, volunteer efforts, and the countless moments that make the festival one of Singapore’s most significant annual Hindu celebrations.

For us, this assignment represents more than a single event. It reflects an ongoing relationship built on trust, consistency, and a shared commitment to preserving important cultural moments through photography and film.

About the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Singapore

The Jagannath Rath Yatra is one of the most recognised Hindu festivals in the world, originating from the historic city of Puri in Odisha, India. The annual procession of Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladeva, and Devi Subhadra has been celebrated for centuries and continues to attract millions of devotees each year.

In Singapore, International Sri Krishna Mandir has played a significant role in preserving and promoting this tradition. The annual Jagannath Rath Yatra organised by ISKM Singapore brings together devotees and visitors from diverse backgrounds while showcasing the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Indian community in Singapore.

Over the years, the festival has evolved into a large-scale celebration featuring devotional activities, cultural performances, music, community participation, and the iconic chariot procession that remains at the heart of the event.

Woodlands Stadium and the 2025 Celebrations

Cultural performances were an important part of the 2025 Jagannath Rath Yatra programme.

The 2025 Jagannath Rath Yatra was held at Woodlands Stadium, where thousands gathered to participate in the celebrations throughout the evening.

Traditional dance performances added colour and energy to the festival programme.

Long before the main procession began, volunteers and organisers were already at work behind the scenes. Stage preparations, logistical coordination, cultural rehearsals, and community activities gradually transformed the venue into a vibrant festival space.

As photographers, these early moments are often just as important as the headline events. They reveal the effort, planning, and dedication that make large community celebrations possible.

Throughout the evening, Woodlands Stadium became a meeting point for devotees, families, performers, volunteers, and visitors. The atmosphere combined spirituality, celebration, and community participation in a way that reflected the multicultural character of Singapore itself.

The Chariot Procession

At the heart of the festival is the procession of Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladeva, and Devi Subhadra.

The procession of Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladeva, and Devi Subhadra remains the centrepiece of the annual festival.

As the chariots moved through the venue, devotees gathered in large numbers to participate in the celebration. The procession remains one of the most anticipated moments of the festival and serves as a powerful symbol of faith, devotion, and community.

Photographing the procession requires balancing scale and intimacy. Wide frames capture the energy and participation of thousands of attendees, while closer images reveal personal moments of devotion, reflection, and celebration.

Over three years of documenting the event, one thing has remained constant: the sense of collective participation that brings people together regardless of age, background, or nationality.

Cultural Performances and Community Participation

Beyond the procession, the Jagannath Rath Yatra is also a celebration of culture.

Music and devotional performances continued throughout the day at Woodlands Stadium.

Throughout the event, performers, musicians, dancers, and community groups contributed to an atmosphere that remained energetic throughout the day. Traditional performances, devotional music, and cultural presentations added another dimension to the festival experience.

For our team, documenting these moments is an important part of preserving the complete story of the event. The festival is not only about a single procession. It is also about the people who participate, perform, volunteer, organise, and celebrate together.

Many of the most memorable photographs from the day emerged from these interactions between performers, families, volunteers, and attendees.

The People Behind the Festival

Every successful event depends upon the dedication of people working behind the scenes.

Over the years, one of the most striking aspects of the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Singapore has been the commitment of the volunteers and organisers who make the celebration possible. Their efforts often begin long before attendees arrive and continue long after the final activities conclude.

The evening aarti brought thousands of devotees together in a shared moment of prayer and devotion.

From coordinating logistics and welcoming visitors to supporting performers and managing event operations, volunteers play a vital role in the success of the festival.

As documentary photographers, we believe these contributions deserve to be recorded alongside the more visible moments of the celebration.

Looking Back on Three Years of Coverage

From Toa Payoh Stadium in 2023 to Yishun ActiveSG Stadium in 2024 and Woodlands Stadium in 2025, documenting the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Singapore has been a remarkable journey.
